Customized Keystone Bullet 330BHS Travel Trailer to Sleep 5 in Bunk Room and Feel Like Home
When we set out to prepare for our adventure we knew our family size would make things challenging...
You can't fit 7 people in a truck very effectively which meant we needed a large SUV to tow and that meant we needed a bumper-pull Travel Trailer.
We also knew we wanted a space where the kids would have their room and we would have ours - like, a real space for each.
So, we went into hundreds of options and finally choose the Keystone Bullet 330BHS. We had to special order the East Coast version to get the second AC-unit in the bunkhouse which isn't an option on the West Coast Model.
From there, we set out to make it our own which meant a lot of changes to the floorplan and aesthetic to match Shannon's farmhouse vision.
In future posts we'll go into more details but the highlights of our modification are shown on the floorplan above and listed below:
- Converted double-over-double beds into L-shaped bunks. We removed the ward to extend the longer bunks to accommodate our 9 and 12-year olds. Our 5 & 7-year-olds fit on the smaller bunks above the outdoor kitchen
- We removed the mini-desk and built in a hide-a-bed that turns into a sitting space for our 3-year old
- We removed the sofa and replaced it with a small convertible
- We removed the dinette and did a built-in L-shape bench and added a round collapsable table
- We replaced the faucet with a residential faucet
- We replaced the mattress with a more comfortable residential mattress
- We enclosed the hallway to create space for a dresser which doubles as my stand-up desk in The bedroom and a hutch-like space on the living room side
- We removed most of the window coverings and replaced them with curtains
- We add a number of hanging storage items including a wall-medicine cabinet to better take advantage of the vertical space
- Shannon painted and wallpapered nearly every wall to create a more home-y feel
- We added an electric fireplace to reduce propane usage on cold nights
- We added a TV on articulating arm in the master bedroom
This has been a process. We wanted everything done before we launched but it didn't work out that way. In fact, we didn't even know we needed a few of the items until we were well underway.
